Should I leave a note?

To Leave a Note or not to Leave a Note... That is the question?

If you were to accidentally hit someone's car in a car park, and nobody saw it happen. Did it actually happen?
There must have been some noise, but did anyone hear it?
These are the questions I posed to myself after arriving at my car the other day to see that my tail lights were broken. I pose this question to you; Would you leave a note? Would you face up to your responsibility? Or would you drive on?
I tried to be an amateur psychologist and reconstruct what may have been going on in the person's mind at the time of the incident, and maybe reconstruct the various scenarios.
Did they not realise at all that they had hit something? Well this could be the case if there were screaming kids in the car, maybe it was a big car and the engine was too loud. I find that still you would know that you have hit something, unless you were completely deaf.
Could it be that you are not insured, and couldn't afford to pay for the damages? I find this to be the most likely case. Anyone in this predicament would then be likely to panic and get out of the area as quickly as possible. I also wonder if they did actually stop and look at the damage that may have occurred to their own vehicle before making the decision to leave.
Or are they just an asshole who doesn't give a shit about anyone else on the planet and treat it as a win for themselves because they didn't get caught. I have had time to ponder over what reality they were in at the time as mine was of disbelief.
I felt like crying at the time as my car is the only thing that I own of any value, and she is my pride and joy. But after some thought, it is only a material object and it can be repaired, so my mental state is more important. I don't have the ability to alter the past, so now I must only control the future and move on. It will be a financial loss to me, but that is all it is. I just wonder what the other person's mental state is, knowing that they have caused an inconvenience to someone else, and do they fell guilty about it.
So my final question to you is; WOULD YOU LEAVE A NOTE?
